Kitchen Safety & Hygiene:
- Cleanliness is key: Wash hands thoroughly before, during, and after food preparation. Clean up spills immediately and wipe down all surfaces after use. If you need additional cleaning supplies, please note the shared cleaning supplies on 1F (Cabinet (cleaning supplies))
- Avoid cross-contamination: Use separate cutting boards and utensils for raw and cooked foods.
- Cook food thoroughly: Ensure meat, poultry, and eggs are cooked to the recommended internal temperatures to prevent foodborne illness.
- Proper food storage: Store food in airtight containers and label them with the date.
Pantry Etiquette:
- Respect shared space: Be mindful of other residents and avoid taking up excessive pantry space.
- Label your food: Clearly label all food items with your name and hall room number to avoid confusion.
- Don't hoard: Take only what you need and leave enough for others.
- Clean up after yourself: If you spill something, clean it up immediately.
Cooking Tips:
- Defrosting meat safely: Thaw meat in the refrigerator, in cold water (changing it every 30 minutes), or in the microwave. Never leave meat out at room temperature to thaw.
- Grease disposal: Do not pour grease down the drain as it can clog the pipes. Let it cool and solidify, then dispose of it in the trash.
- Photo example of what happens to pipes if grease is poured into the drains.
- Mindful cooking: Avoid leaving food unattended on the stove or in the oven.
- Fire safety: Familiarize yourself with the location of fire extinguishers and evacuation routes.
Additional Points:
- Considerate cooking: Be aware of strong odors and avoid cooking foods that may trigger allergies in others.
- Noise levels: Keep noise levels down, especially during late hours.
- Report any issues: If you notice any problems with appliances or the pantry, inform the hall staff immediately.
